History
Canterbury gained importance as the site of the first post-Empire outpost of the Catholic Church. From here, Roman Bishops reformed Druid-ized Christian Jutes and brought England back into the fold. And of course, Geofferey Chaucer ensured that Canterbury will remain famous as long as the English Language is spoken.
Throughout the Mideival era, Mithras could not keep a Baron in place in Canterbury, as agents of the Cainite Heresy refused to bow both to a Pagan idol and their own twisted conception of Christian divinity. That changed during the reign of VIII Henry and his split with the Roman Church. One of Mithras's Satraps (personal bodyguards), James Mannerly, moved from Dover, and with the help of the Nosferatu Richard Worde, Mithras's spymaster, broke the Heresy's stronghold in Canterbury and harried its surviving agents from the Isles.
The County of Kent remains diffusely populated, with a small but persistent Lupine population. Baron Mannerly's Knights, some 20 strong, remain stationed individually or in small groups in the towns such as Ashford, Dover, Folkestone, and Margate, maintaining order and protecting the masquerade in a miniature reflection of the Courts of Avalon.
