DISCRIPTION
The Dominion of Revelation depicts the transcendent grace and allure of those Gods known for their epic appearance. In addition to divine heights of physical appeal, this Dominion is also capable of wielding and reshaping beauty itself as a fundamental force, granting blessings that manifest their recipient’s inner beauty or stripping away the good looks of foes.
INTRODUCTION
The Dominion of REVELATION (epic appearance) represents the extremes of both divine beauty and monstrous ugliness. The player must decide which aspect his character’s REVELATION represents, and it cannot change thereafter.
In addition to its standard automatic successes, for every REVELATION dot a Scion has, his player is allowed one free re-roll per scene of a failed use of a social talent / skill in a social situation. That use of a social talent or skill must be appropriate to the nature of the Avatar’s REVELATION, though. A divinely gorgeous Avatar’s player can’t re-roll the character’s failed attempt to intimidate the leader of a mob of soccer hooligans. Likewise, a hideous Avatar’s player can’t re-roll his character’s failed attempt to seduce an NFL cheerleader.
In any case, the granted re-roll doesn’t receive bonus successes from REVELATION unless the original roll was (Appearance + an appropriate talent or skill). Also, a player cannot re-roll a failed activation of a Power or Miracle that requires the use of a social talent or skill. The re-roll applies only to direct social applications of that Ability. Finally, if a character is entitled to more than one re-roll per scene, the player can apply them to the same failed roll or to separate failed rolls in any combination he wishes.
INNATE POWERS
Beauty is without question a double-edged blade, both cutting for and against the those who possess it. An attractive person can use their good looks to get what they want, but whether they use their beauty to seduce someone or just act the tease, that individual may later feel used or possessive. Worse still, beauty has a completely subconscious effect on all those who see the attractive person, conjuring either jealousy or desire in random observers and sometimes those feelings roused by beauty are unhealthy or even malignant. For these reasons, an Avatar of beauty has many reasons to seek the ability to pass through the everyday world without drawing undue attention and still being able to interact with humanity, and that is where the Cloak of Banality comes in handy.
Cloak of Banality: Like a superhero hiding their identity behind a pair of glasses or everyday clothing, the Avatars of REVELATION (divine appearance) can mask their sublime beauty by invoking this innate power. This power doesn't hide the deity's identity so much as it diminishes their appearance. The best analogy would be that beauty like light casts its radiance over all who see it, but like a lantern, the light of beauty can be hooded or shielded from view, and thus draws no unwanted attention to the deity in question. The deity who used this innate power voluntarily reduces their appearance to an average level, or an appearance of two (2). Just like all the other Dominions the power of REVELATION is controllable by the Avatar in question and while its active use can have devastating consequences if bungled, it need not stop traffic or invite the attentions of a stalker.
GODS OF REVELATION
Amaterasu, APHRODITE, Apollo, Baldur,
Erzulie, Freya, Hel*, Izanami*, Miclántecuhtli*,
Raiden*, Sif, Tezcatlipoca, Tlaloc*, Tlazoltéotl
(Note: Gods marked with an asterisk are known for being monstrously ugly, whereas the rest are considered especially attractive even among the Gods. A character need not take after his parent in this fashion, however. An Avatar of Miclántecuhtli can have a divinely gorgeous REVELATION, or a Avatar of Aphrodite can be a horror to behold. A Avatar of an “average-looking” God can be either if he has REVELATION.)
