San Francisco -=SF=- The Castro & Noe Valley

Introduction

For the Imperial Court of the Golden Mountain the Castro and its surrounding neighborhoods presented an ideal reservation for the barbarian Kin-jin who would be banished there to feed on the twisted-chi tainted blood of homosexuals and other sexual aberrants.

It never occurred to the extremely conservative and often sanctimonious Mandarins of the Quincunx that the Kindred could be anything but mortified, but many among the western undead were overjoyed to be given such a crowded and popular feeding ground.

The wu chosen to protect this Gay mecca were inevitably selected from the most dispised of the court's members, a trio of deviants whose predilection made them ideal watchdogs to look after the local mortals and keep the resident Kin-jin penned-up.

Enter the Three Joyous Relations a subtle joke and play on words that actually meant Happy Family a cheap selection of fast and filling food found in Chinese-American restaurants. Those so titled by the courtly Mandarins took the slight with a grudging acceptance and chose to spite those lofty advisers to by proudly accepting their group sobriquet and displaying their colors so to speak.

This did not sit well with the court, but what was done could not be undone and Three Joyous Relations took up residence within the Castro in 2003.

The 3JR (Three Joyous Relations) immediately set out to blend into the Castro culture. They immediately affected ABC (American Born Chinese) behaviors and worked hard to connect with both the Gay culture of San Francisco and to reconnect with the Chinese population, this attempt did not entirely succeed nor did it entirely fail, rather it created a unusual melange of cultural identities that most residents of San Francisco responded to with a shrug and overlooked it as "Californication."

The wu of 3JR or as they are sarcastically called 3-Junior by their Kindred captives make constant efforts to remain in contact with their wards and often treat the Castro reservation like a HOA (homeowners association). They regularly invite the Kin-jin out to nightclubs for Karaoke, to the amusement park for a bit of putt-putt, for the more intellectually inclined there are midnight readings of select fiction at the local library, movie-nights or invitations to private art showings and small musical venues.

From this Wu's perspective Unlife in the Castro should be comfortable and relations with the western devils cordial. While most of the local Kindred aren't buying this approach the 3JR have fewer strays and breakout attempts than any other reservation other than Pacific Heights.

Family History

The story of Three Joyous Relations must be explored from the youngest member of the Wu Strange Father and Big Mother backwards to the eldest member Green Tea Girl.

Strange Father a noted and unrepentant deviant died and returned to the city of Nanking in 1927. He was found and taken in by that most August court which is where he encountered and bonded with Big Mother while surviving the Rape of Nanking.

After WW2 the new couple hungered for more than horror and abandoned the Court of Nanking to sojourn the Middle Kingdom as heimin or vagabonds without court or Wu.

By the mid-1960s the couple had visited several courts and had received the same response a terse inquiry into their origins followed by a tepid reception and then a polite request to depart. This pattern varied from court to court and months or years might pass before the cycle repeated itself.

In 1967 Strange Father and Big Mother had arrived within the Golden Court of Saigon. Against the backdrop of the Vietnamese War the pair found refuge among the less hostile southern court which stressed the exploration of all desires. It was there in the steamy summer of 67 that the younger Kuei-jin encountered Green Tea Girl.

Green Tea Girl was older, she had clawed her way back from hell sometime in the 18th Century and her power dwarfed her new companions even combined. But this duo of male and female, yin and yang, seemed a symbolic sign to the child Kuei-jin and she approached the Ancestor of Saigon for her blessing to form a new Wu.

For reasons unknown to all but the child Kuei-jin and the Ancestor permission was granted and the new family of undead took up residence in the old French Colonial district and together they hunted primarily American service men until 1975 when Saigon fell to the mortal communists and their Quincunx masters.

The family-three barely escaped the fall of Saigon and over the next few years they traveled ever south until they took up residence in Sydney, Prince Sarasin cared little about another small group of vampires and the family took up residence in King St in Newtown, one of the queerest neighborhoods in Sydney.

For almost two decades the family of undead hunted in the shadows of gay bars and bath houses, that is until the appearance of the Demon-Emperor's Eye (the infamous Red Star which only supernatural creatures could see).

With the appearance of the Eye - the serenity of the Wu was shattered. Stange Father, a dabbler in the yin-arts, began to receive ominous warnings from the ghosts of his many betrayals promising the opening of all the gates of hell and the return of the Demon Emperor's consort.

With these revelations the Wu searched the arcane recesses of Sydney for anything similar to the prophesies granted to Strange Father. And found the unlikliest of allies in that city's Tremere.

Now with the briefest of ancient evidence the family of three has come to the West in search of a demonic-hearld whose death might well avert the Sixth Age.
