Abelard is a tall man, of spanish stock, with short, dark hair graying at the temples. He has, too, the moustache of the typical hidalgo, striken with gray and white. His features, slightly wrinkled by the effects of the age and the study of dark arts, are handsome, if somewhat cruel by appearance.
He is always wearing black costume, from Chanel, as well as wearing the most expensive of perfumes.
Behavior: Abelard is a master among slaves. He has no respect for those less powerful than he, and he only respects the more powerful because of their power... And until he succeed in removing it from them. He try to hide his contempt, and while he succeed more easily when the person is powerful, Neonates (or worst, Bâtards!) easily feel Abelard stinging words or hidden threats. Abelard still wonders how the Toreador succeeded in having so much power in France, and wonder if, perhaps, he shouldn't try to take Villon's place...
History: Cristobal Abelardo Arias was born in 1748, in Barcelona. Soon, his ambition made him chose a life as a lawyer, thinking he would raise his social status by doing such. Be he wasn't an Hidalgo, and by such, higher spheres of power were barred from him unless he succeeded in being ennobled. But his patience was wearing thin, and he turned to magic, and his ambition made for his lack of real Magickal talent. He became a Sorcerer (Hedge Mage), and used his power to make himself a place in the hierarchy.
A austrian Tremere, Ernst, discovered him for what he was, and gave him the choice between a short life of powers of low sorcery, and a neverending unlife of powerful Thaumaturgy, and membership in the greatest order of Mages in the world.
Cristobal chose the unlife, of course, and his teacher, seeing his unquenching ambition, taught him a lot about Thaumaturgy. So, Cristobal thought he would attain the higher spheres, and worked so hard the Seven Elders of Vienna were positively surprised. So, the Sire and the Childe went on to visit most magical site of the world, trying to unlock mysteries of creation and magick, for the next 150 years. But once, Ernst cast a Ritual Cristobal didn't know. Cristobal tried to learn it in secret, and tried to cast it. But the Thaumaturgical Knowledge was beyond him, and he soon discovered that his own Blood was to blame.
To be given such dreams, and be awakened to understand that his weak Generation would always be a barrier between him and power made him cry of rage for nights. His admiration and awe for his Sire turned to hatred. He was approached by a Tremere Antitribu, and soon Cristobal agreed to join him in the Sabbat, with all his Paths and Rituals, if Ernst was given to him.
Cristobal simply staked his Sire, and then betrayed the Sabbat pack to the Camarilla, accusing them of having destroyed his Sire. The attack against the Sabbat was swift and lethal.
Then he moved to Vienna, to tell them about the death of his Sire. Vienna's answer was to wait for Villon's authorization for Clan Tremere to get back in Paris, then to take back the Tremere Chantry, study both the occult history of the city, study the Vis source and the Veilleur's strange Thaumaturgy.
Some years after, Villon removed his Edict against Tremere's Forbidden presence in Paris, the Black Veins of the Diablerie had disappeared from his Aura, and he was now 6th Generation, presented as Abelard, 7th Generation of Clan Tremere.
But his thirst for knowledge and power was not satied, and it was too obvious to be ignored. Sophie, a Follower of Set whose presence in Paris was secret, contacted him to help her find a Setite Elder in Torpor under Paris' surface. In exchange, the Setite agreed to pay him by teaching him the Path of Corruption.
But the corruption went beyond their wildest dreams, as Abelard, as he was called now, decided to betray them as soon as he will find the Methuselah in Torpor. He, too, found the source of Vis, and he found too, that he could feed his Rituals and Spells by using this Vis. He has yet to understand that the Vis source and the Methuselah are the same, even if he plans to Diablerize the Methuselah as soons as he finds him.
Notes: Abelard's ego is so full with contempt, and his ambition is so high that it is easy to goat him with promises of power. In the other hand, one should be prepared to Abelard's wrath should the promises not be acomplished... That is if the one is still alive...
Abelard is a good evil character, and his ambition makes him an easy spacegoat to hide others, less obvious, Jyhad players, like Theti-Sheri, Lazlo. Laureen, De la Tour, Francesca or Labienus.
Actual Aim: To find the Setite Methuselah.
Rumours:
Abelard killed his Sire for his Blood (True). Abelard is the Archon of the Tremere Justicar, Karl Schriek, Searching Paris for Diabolists (False). Abelard deals with dark powers from the Abyss (False... Only because he didn't find someone to teach him Dark Thaumaturgy!) Abelard used and still uses Assamite to murder parisian Kindred (True, but this Damn Diane always succeed in avoiding or surviving his attacks. Abelard is fortifying the Tremere Chantry (True: He fears an attack from Diane's friends, the Lupines).
