Bernard Whetterhorn married Silvia Curran, of the Mobile Currans, in the early spring of 1841.  Hamilton Whetterhorn was born December of that same year.  After him over the next eight years came Febe Segolene (1843), Bridger Marlon (1844), and Raylon Alan (1848). Quincy John and Emily Louise came together in the early months of 1850.  Silvia was badly ill after the birth of her twins, and always remained sickly.  Silvia passed in the winter of 1870.
Hamilton married Frederique Kidd (Mandeville)in the late summer of 1860. Hamilton was shot in the leg and wounded at Shiloh.  They had Nina Louise, Denis<br>
Febe married Terrence Reginald Garrington in the fall 1859.  They had Percival and Mondavid.  Terrence was killed in at the battle of Bull Run.<br>
Bridger went to war in 1862, joining Roberdeau Wheat's Old Dominion Guards.  He later married Elizabeth Arnoud of Pennsylvania.  They returned to Covington, and then moved to Abita Springs.  Wendy, Sylvia, and Thomas were their children.

This plantation sits at the edge of town, partially burned at the turn of the century. The Whetterhorn plantation never recovered from the loss of their slaves at the end of the civil war. Several slave families stayed on to help work the ground in a share crop fashion, but many financial hardships plagued the farm.
