England / Vampiric Baronies of Britain

Location:

Newcastle Upon Tyne (usually shortened to "Newcastle") is the northernmost city in England, sitting on the north side of the mouth of the Tyne river, south of Hadrian's wall and the Scottish border.

Vampiric History

Carlisle was the northern-most English Barony, and rumored to be where Mithras rested until being awakened by the Triumvirate in the 10th century CE. It has hosted a series of Barons (7, easily the most of any of Avalon's Baronies), each charged with watching the Toreador of Scotland. Some opposed Prince Robert of Edinburgh and died to his machinations. Others were seduced by the Toreador's promises of culture and beauty, and died for their treason.

As the population of Newcastle outstripped that of Carlisle during the 17th and 18th centuries, the Baron of Carlisle spent more and more time and effort in the larger city. The most recent Baroness, Helen Stuart, moved the seat to Newcastle when she took the position, proclaiming herself Princess of Newcastle on Tyne and Baroness of Carlisle. She appointed a Reeve (with the powers of Sheriff and Seneschal within the ancient town) to oversee matters in Carlisle.
