History: The origins of the Hall Family begin in medieval times, for the first man to be given the surname Hall was a guardsman of the Prince Bishop of Durham in County Durham, located north of Yorkshire in England. That man, Elric gained his surname when he fought in the famous Battle of Neville's Cross which took place on 17 October 1346.
