:'''Appearance:''' Tobias Smith is austere. His square jaw and narrow eyes seem to be set in stone. His gray hair suggests age and wisdom. Smith dresses in gray or black conservative suits and always wears a cloak, even in summer. He uses the Discipline of Obtenebration to make himself more imposing.

:'''Background:''' Tobias Smith was Embraced in Malta in the late 1880s and has been with the Sabbat ever since. A former member of several influential and respected packs, Smith fought bravely in the sect's civil war. He rose quickly through the ranks and became a Templar to Cardinal Desmoines during World War I. His career was long and distinguished, and he went on to advise and protect Cardinal Desmoines in Mexico City. Smith himself might have been named cardinal, if he hadn't been so distracted by the mortal Carolina Valez.

:He watched her from afar for a month, and fell in love with the Mexican's intensity. Given into his desire, he kidnapped Carolina and forced her through the Creation Rites only to be fraught with guilt. He left the cemetery before she rose, leaving her to be discovered by other Sabbat. From that night forward, Smith looked after Carolina and used his influence to pave her road to success.

:Tobias was not planning to join Carolina's pack, but couldn't stand the idea that she would be in L.A., far from his watchful eye. The two have been together ever since, but Smith can't bring himself to confess his feelings, partially, because he sees his emotional attachment as a weakness.

:Though they did not see eye to eye on many subjects, Tobias and Carolina respected and understood each other. The combination of moderate and ultraconservative provided the Lost Angels with its greatest strength. But when Carolina became obsessed with her mortal grand-daughter Josefina, much as Tobias had with her, but based more on physical vanity, Tobias realized the past was about to repeat itself. Smith saw much of Carolina in her grand-daughter and it was at this point that Tobias made a crucial decision to correct his past errors and save Carolina from repeating his mistakes.

:The same night that Tobias walked Josefina to the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery for her creation rites, a Carmarilla sponsored assassin took Carolina Valez's unlife. Tobias sought to correct past errors by giving Josefina the choice he failed to give Carolina and by taking responsibility for his desires and claiming Josefina as his childe. Smith angered Carolina in his choice of childer and as such she was absent at the highly celebrated creation rite for her grand-daughter Josefina. Smith embraced Josefina and buried her with her mortal friends and the majority of the Sabbat of Montreal turned out to welcome Josefina from the grave.

:Since Josefina's embrace and Carolina's assassination, sire and childe have grown very close, becoming friends, lovers and companions in the search for the former Archbishop's murderers. Smith's discovery of a long term Tremere spy in West Mount has propelled his career into motion again and in 2018 he was personally appointed Archbishop of Montreal by Cardinal Strathcona with the tacit approval of each faction of the Sabbat of Montreal.

:'''Personality:''' Tobias only speaks when he has to, often waiting until the most crucial moment to say something and turn the conversation to his favor. From Smith's perspective, words are power and should be used for maximum effect. His stern and dour personality has caused many young Sabbat to label him a cynical elder, but his intensity and ferocity usually allay such accusations.

:'''Current Events:''' Now Archbishop Smith plays a dangerous game as he plots to find all those responsible for Carolina's assassination and perhaps more importantly, those Sabbat who may have developed sympathies for the Camarilla or its agents. To accomplish this, Smith is preparing a series of obvious and not-so-obvious ploys to smoke out those whose allegiance to the sect may be compromised intentionally or otherwise. Once the Camarilla's agents in Montreal have been identified, Smith plans to use them to provide disinformation to the enemy in preparation for his counter-offensive.
