			Hartwin Franko was born on a farm in northern Spain, where he was drafted into the Holy Roman Army. On a field of battle in southern France he was defeated along with 500 other men. Not killed but taken prisoner, he wound up being the food of Marhuel, who found him intriguing and talked to him rather than just killing him. As the morning sun was preparing to rise, Marhuel offered Hartwin a chance to experience eternity. Hartwin accepted.

			Living with his Sire for over a hundred years, Hartwin learned a lot about warfare and the supplying of troops. While he studied philosophy and history at the knee of his Sire, he found a natural ability to buy and sell arms and equipment.
