			Born Maria Babette Baptist Franz von Berchtold zu Sonnenburg, Maria was the daughter of Johann Baptist Franz von Berchtold zu Sonnenburg and Maria Anna Mozart, sister to the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Maria was raised by her mother, who taught her all about music. Traveling all of Europe with her mother Maria learned all about performing and being loved by the Aristocracy. A prodigy like her uncle, Maria was composing by the age of 5. As a female though, she didn't garner much appreciation for her talents, though her mother made good use of her material, never giving her credit.

			At the age of sixteen she ran away with a very promising violin player from the Frankfurt orchestra. They wound up in France, and she was seen to perform by [[Marlene Fabrice]].
			Marlene was so intrigued with her that she wooed the girl away from her man, and began to prominade her in front of the Toreador of Paris. In time Marlene was allowed to embrace her for her strong support of the clan and city.

			After her embrace Maria changed her name to Katia, and began a popular existence in Paris. Over time Katia grew bold and sailed to the New World. In 1900 she arrived in San Francisco. Initially Katia reveled in the city, but after the earthquake of 1906, she began to see flaws in the Camarilla. She argued with Ventrue, and was rebuffed. The years leading up to WW II didn't change things for her.

			In 1943 Katia met [[Billiards Kitty]] in the city. Kitty flirted with Katia, playing cat and mouse with her for a couple of weeks. Intrigued, Katia eventually met with Kitty and the two began talking. Kitty would tell Katia tales of freedom and power. Over the next year Kitty convince Katia to join the Sabbat, and help them free the city. Katia took on the name Carcer Strings as her Sabbat persona, while becoming the model Camarilla vampire as Katia.

			When the Great Leap Outwards happenned, Katia kept her head down. When the ashes began to fall in the city, she extended her help to the Cathayans. In a short amount of time she was well thought of for a barbarian. Katia/Carcer works both sides, and wants to convince the Camarilla that the Kuei-jin are enemy number one, which will lead to the Camarilla vampires seeing the joyous freedom of the Sabbat.
