New page

[[Level 1 - Storyline Rituals]] / [[Boudicca's Statistics]]
'''Description:''' This ancient ritual of baptism dedicated to the Romano-British goddess Coventina grants her priestesses the ability to wash away sin from those who truly regret their profane acts. But, those who seek to commit atrocities or violate sacred precepts are in for a rude surprise as their sins mystically multiply, adding to their decline from virtue. Sadly, the priestess cannot baptize herself in order to wash away her own sins, she must seek out another priestess of Coventina, in order to find absolution.
'''Ingredients:''' Any source of fresh, running water; sea water will not work, as Coventina is a goddess of springs and wells. All that is required on the subject's part is a sincere desire for forgiveness and the belief in Coventina.
'''Casting:''' The priestess and the subject wade out into a river, spring or stream. The subject asks Coventina to wash away his or her sins, Then priestess immerses the subject and invokes the goddess and pleads for mercy and forgiveness for the subject.
'''System:''' Intelligence + Rituals at a difficulty number of five (5) or four (4) for casters who are prodigies. A botch on the ritual roll, compels the priestess to make a relevant virtue roll for offending her deity; while a failure results in a waste of time and effort. This is a pass or fail ritual, if the caster is successful, the subject may re-roll his or her last failed virtue roll. The ritual doesn't guarantee success on the second virtue roll, but it does give the subject a second chance. If the subject lies about wanting his sins washed away, he automatically fails his second virtue roll with the obvious and additional loss of another virtue dot. Strangely, this ritual works equally for the virtues of Conscience, Conviction and failed path of enlightenment rolls. This ritual can only be cast once a day for any given individual.
