The magician burns an offering to Agni, god of fire and the sacrifice, while beseeching the god to withdraw his favor from the fires of the magician's enemies.  The magician then gathers the ash of the sacrifice and stores it in a box or jar.  A handful of the ash, scattered on a fire, extinguishes any mundane blaze.<br>
