Hans “Wulfgar” Holgersson

Scandinavia may be the most polite, tolerant, well mannered and civilized place on the planet. Wulfgar hated it. He believed that to honor his ancestors and prove himself a man, he was obligated to fight fearlessly and never surrender. In order to do so, he had to go where there was fighting worthy of a man, and his native Sweden didn't provide the necessary challenges. So, he packed up his gear and booked a flight to Africa and enlisted in the first mercenary organization that would have him.

While he didn't truly believe in Valhalla, he took every chance to get up close and personal with the enemy, and kept two well-honed hatchets hanging from his belt most of the time just in case. He disappointed a series of commanders who assumed that the big Swede would be among the first casualties, and survived five years as a mercenary, drifting from company to company. More than once, his recklessness actually saved him, as his undisciplined charges took him out of the kill zone when his unit was ambushed. (The truth of this is a source of dispute: the tales grow each time they're told.) It's almost enough to convince someone that Thor truly does favor the brave.

Ultimately, Wulfgar ended up in Greece, looking for a job in yet another war-torn third-world country. The only difference was that the natives were European, and to a Viking, that doesn't mean much. He did finally meet an employer who would keep him on and valued his valor. In the employ of Bruce Zieger, Hans went toe-to-toe with monstrous products of Tzimisce laboratories in the Balkans, frenzying vampires in England, and shadowy creatures out of a nightmare in Sicily. Somehow, he survived, often by dint of the miraculous blood that flowed in his veins.

On September 19, 2031, all this brought him to the streets of London, where he was given his most important assignment. He has been given as a "gift" to the Viking Ventrue Archon, Brian O'Reilly. While he is smart enough to know that his embrace was a matter of strategy and convenience, and not a little desperation, Hans believes that he has now stepped into the role the Valkyrja chose for him. He is not sure if this is his reward for a life well lived, or just the latest test.
