DARKNESS

●● -- UMBRAGE

Dice Pool: Charisma + Occult = 6

Cost: Expend 1 Divinity + 1 Willpower

Description: What is an Avatar of Darkness to do when overwhelmed by opponents or backed into a corner? The correct answer is let the shadows rage: UMBRAGE. This power animates all shadows in the nearby area giving them enough substance to physically touch those the Avatar counts as targets or enemies. If the Avatar successful activates this Power there is a distinct angry susurration within the zone of effect. The shadows of the Avatar, her attackers, those of onlookers and any other beings present move of their own accord to attack the closest opponent. Each shadow has a signature attack: biting, clawing, or slashing with a shadowy weapon and those attacked may be caught flatfooted by an unexpected and devastating attack from behind.

The Avatar's player rolls Charisma + Occult at a difficulty of six (6) and expends one divinity and one point of willpower. The number of shadows animated equals the successes rolled by the Avatar's player and each shadow can attack once per round and act upon their Avatar's initiative. The animate shadows will attack the closest opponent, barring the Avatar that animated them, doing lethal damage as they attack the enemy. The animated shadows attack with a pool equal to the Avatar's Dexterity + Brawl and do damage equal to the Avatar's DARKNESS + Strength + MIGHT.

The angry shadows are not impervious to attacks, but take only half-damage from mundane weapons rounded down, while fire and magical weapons deal full damage. Each shadow takes some of its substance from the being from which it sprang and thus begins play with half of that being's health levels rounded up. If an attack or multiple attacks do enough damage to destroy the angry shadow it dissolves and leaves its original caster with a level of lethal damage until it is healed normally and the shadow is regrown.

If the original caster of the angry shadow falls unconscious or dies, the angry shadow persists until the end of the scene and simply selects the next nearest target of opportunity and attacks on the Avatar's initiative. In this situation it is possible for a dwindling number of opponents to become the target of more than one angry shadow and in that circumstance their difficulties increase per combat with multiple foes.

It is possible for two or more Avatars of Darkness to activate this Power at or about the same time. Under those circumstance, each combat round the competing Avatar's players must roll contested Charisma + Occult at a difficulty of six (6) and the winner takes control of all angry shadows for the combat turn. In the case of a tie, the shadows are split in half evenly. The angry shadows animated by the Power of UMBRAGE will never attack another angry shadow, only corporeal opponents can be targeted.

A botched UMBRAGE roll is a thing of nightmares and legend.
