Saint Louis
The great culture known by westerners as the "Mound Builders" were in fact a faction of Totonacs who had migrated to the north, fleeing the war that had started with the Huestecs. These pilgrims founded one of the great "Seven Cities of gold". Xeibolla as it was called by the natives was a thriving religious and trade center. The Totonac pilgrims started simply but with time proceeded to rebuild the culture they had left behind in the Yucatan. The pilgrims brought with them kin folk and holy people. In time they made allies with the scattered plains people. Crops grew and trade flourished. Things were good for the people of Xeibolla.

The Nosferatu Methuselah Avetis Vardanis had traveled the breadth of the Atlantic Ocean and made a wandering zigzag of North America before arriving at the city of Xeibolla around 600 AD. Making himself at home in the caves that beehive under the present site of old St. Louis Avetis managed for a very long time to stay hidden from the natives that lived nearby. Only when he chose and sired a childe from a wandering band of Norsemen who had made their way up the Mississippi did Avetis leave a trail the Uktena could follow. In a pitched battle that lasted several days, the Nosferatu and the werewolves fought, with the childe Tormod Swenhaugen being injured to the edge of death and forced into torpor. Avetis fled south, leaving his childe entombed under tons of rock behind a cave in. Avetis swore he would return.
