Arcane Objects

<appearance>

Appearance: The Faux Anexhexaton is a large stone stele made of black, highly polished diorite. It is two classical cubits wide, four cubits in length and half a cubit thick; it weights 2150lbs or ~975kg. The black stele is marked with an indecipherable text on one side and marked with arcane diagrams of an ambiguous nature on the opposite side; along its borders is an illegable text combined with occasional larger symbols. Both sides are irregularly lacunose (bearing lacuna or missing portions of text); the object cannot be photographed, nor can impressions be taken safely. The stele is extremely cold to the touch and reduces the ambient temperature to freezing in a matter of minutes; mortals and vampires alike develop frostbite from prolonged contact. The artifact is perfectly balanced and will remain upright regardless of the nature of the surface upon which it rests. There is a constant din of whispers in its immediate environment; recording devices always record white noise and those weak of will are often deranged by the sound. Certain environmental properties fluctuate on a non-random, but as of yet indecipherable basis. Many of these traits may be the result of necromantic enchantments placed on the item by Ugo Rosselini to discourage tampering or investigation. So far, no sorcerous paths or rituals have been activated in its vicinity, except for its transportation via thaumaturgic teleportation from Sofia to Gabrovo, Bulgaria during the winter of 2010; at the time of the teleportation, there was no discernible effect positive or negative.

Background: The Faux Anexhexaton was presumably crafted by Ugo Rosselini after Ambrogino Giovanni acquired the original item in Egypt in 1882. If the artifact in Gabrovo is a copy, then Ugo went to considerable trouble to necromantically protect it and what differences might exist between the copy and the original remain speculation. The other question of note is whether or not Ambrogino Giovanni or anyone else knew of the Faux Anexhexaton and if so, are they looking for it even now.

Powers: So far, the powers of the Faux Anexhexaton remain unexplored save for the artifacts active assimilation of all enfant wraiths within its immediate vicinity.

Resting Place: Crypt of the Stone

Notes: Diorite is an extremely hard rock often used in the ancient world for important inscriptions. Units of Measure [2 cubits = (i.e.~105cm or 42inches) / 4 cubits = (i.e.~210cm or 84inches or 7ft) / half cubit = (i.e.~26.25cm or ~10.5inches)]

Quotation: And you will be brought low; from the earth you shall speak, and from the dust your speech will be bowed down; your voice shall come from the ground like the voice of a ghost, and from the dust your speech shall whisper. (Isaiah 29:4)

Recent Events: In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 6th, 2016 - Brian O'Reilly and Marius Egnatius entered the Crypt of the Stone. Shortly thereafter, Brian O'Reilly cast the thaumaturgic ritual "Full Analysis" on the Faux Anexhexaton, though the ritual seemed to go normally, near the climax of the ritual, the light in the chamber began to dim and the Stone's engravings began to glow with emerald light. Then, suddenly, there was a blinding emerald flash, Marius was blinded and Brian lost consciousness. The fate of the two princes remains to be seen, but in toying with ancient death magics there will undoubtedly be unforetold consequences.
