Barovia

Appearance

The town is surrounded by a wooden stockade, with the Citadel in the center.

Population

3,500. The people of Teufeldorf are almost entirely human, with only an occasional half-Vistani, half-elf, or Caliban. There is a small population of halflings living here. Otherwise nonhumans if present, are universally travelers and most will go to lengths to conceal their nature from the superstitious inhabitants.

Government

Burgomeister Nemanja Dalca runs the affairs of Teufeldorf from a small Citadel constructed by the Terg during their occupation of Barovia. Among the boyars, Dalca is a cold eyed tyrant willing to make hard decisions for the good of his town, and his own pocket. He scrupulously follows Strahds laws and collects his taxes. Weapons are watched closely, and anyone staying in town for more than a night must check their weapons with his soldiers. Perhaps they can get them back, perhaps not. Dalca will happily capture and publicly kill anyone selling weapons to the people of this town. Dalca has a wife and daughter he houses in the town near the citadel.

Defense

The Terg citadel also serves as barracks for Teufeldorf's 100 soldiers, who also serve as constables. The Burgomeister can call up 800 militia if needed.

Inns

  • -- Severed Head: This in is run by the family of one of Strahds commanders. The head is still mounted by the door. The Severed Head is run by Pavlo Benici. He is the grandson of Borga Benici, who killed the leader of the Tergs holding Teufeldorf. His nephew Petro works the stable yard. Pavlo has two daughters and one new girl he has taken in for sex trade in an effort to keep Dalca's wandering eye from his girls. Pavlo's wife is Yagma, a heavy set woman of 45. They are a Gundar family.
