MiscSo every once in awhile

I wind up coming back to this noise. Weird things afoot. Amy Winehouse is apparently dead, thus making it harder for comedians to make fun of some poor drug-and-booze addicted schlub. And my cat keeps sitting on or near my mouse in a desperate plea for attention. Very weird weird day. All this and I have to go to work shortly.
Still no word on the NFL front. Eh. When they actually start losing money, then they’ll come to the table and deal.
New Winnipeg Jets logo is out. It feels like they went with a very safe design, but fans are incensed, mainly because it’s not the old logo. Best comment on the subject I found.

BroncosMiscSlow day

really not much going on at the moment, which is only faintly mindboggling to the universe. Plunking at the google+, seems to be working out.
NFL looks like they might actually have an agreement here soon, which is good – My poor local sports station is about dry right now with the Rockies being in the tank.

MiscIs this actually…

Irony? I’m serious, everyone elses’ privacy is for sale, how much would the owner of Facebooks’ be worth? I mean come on. That’s a gold mine of data, just for all the people he knows. Advertising people, execs, and then actual useful people as well.

MiscHoly heck

Okay, so I’m working through a few things, and trying to work on my secondary hobby/career as a writer. But that’s a total sidebar of my thoughts, so I just have to keep at it – not unlike getting to the Met, writing is a practice based thing.
One thing I have to work on is adding some meat to these posts. I think my skills have been faintly deteriorated by the 140-character max and/or facebook 2 sentences. Interesting thought, are essay requirements trending toward the shorter and shorter as professorial attention spans shrink?

MiscShameless plug

You know you want to click this link to buy a book from Amazon – It’s for a book called “A Shot in the Dark“, and you want to click and buy because there’s some truly delightful prose, amusements, and a cameo appearance by my favorite state. And also because you got the last one and want to know what happens. Right? RIGHT!?

Misc*knocks the dust off*

Son of a bitch. I’ve been busy. yes, 2 years without a post busy. I did things, got a degree, and a few other things happened, but I’m back. Hockey does that.

MiscIt’s Labor Day. I’m not laboring.

I am in fact, farking off and doing zilch.

Mistake of the month: working out some new method to try and quit smoking. Yes it’s pretty much a battle. Tried one of the funky E-cig things, and that worked for all of…6 hours. So that’s just a pisser and a half. I’m wondering if I put a link to it with “sucks ass” is worth the effort. I’m pissed because I’m out 40 bucks, but then…it was my own damn fault, at least partially.

Lateraled to a new position at my job, which I can work with. It’s not incoming calls, it’s more incoming emails. I’m okay with that, but it does kinda leave me with a little less time for jering around and doing very little.

Steam for Linux is the new Duke Nukem Forever. I want my games, but I want my Ubuntu more. I’ll spend money on a product that’ll work on my platform. Trust me, all that money from not buying Windows has to go somewhere.

MiscAs close as I may get to famous.

So. First off, go buy “A Devil in the Details“, by one K.A. Stewart. Don’t ask, just do it. Good book.
Now here’s my little moment in the sun.

Yes, I am one among many. But it feels good to have helped someone get a book published, in a little way.

MiscUpdates from the universe

Let’s see…facebook seems to have to become an interesting form of spyware. It’s an ingenious idea, really – Convince people to reconnect with old friends, new friends, and play spiffy games. Then take all the information they give you and sell it. Ingenious, and if you see your users as “dumb fucks” who am I to argue with you? You’re the millionaire.

Jumping on the Habs bandwagon now. I admit it, I have a soft spot for the Canadiens. They gave us Roy.

Algebra is once again the most evil thing known to man. (Or me, but hey.) Seriously, I haven’t seen or dealt with this in 2 decades, and the last time I saw it, I asked myself “When am I going to use this in the real world?” – apparently, the answer is “When you go back to school, you silly bastard!”

MiscSpring Break of sorts.

So yes – The insanity of school continues. Sometimes I really wonder what the hell goes through the minds of these people. I don’t know that I could bomb any of these classes if I tried. I mean, honestly, I probably could if I just didn’t do any of the assignments, but sort of that? I seem to be pretty much coasting through with a B average.
Little insight into one of my classes of late. Basically, it was programming for people who’d never touched a computer before. They didn’t use a real programming language, just a fake-code that had all the expected structure, but absolutely no ability to compile or run on a computer.
It was like being handed Duplo blocks to play with because I wasn’t smart enough to not choke on a Lego.
Upcoming, I have a class on LAN setup/creation/maintenance, and Algebra. Algebra’s going to be a fun test of my long-term memory, since the last time I took Algebra was about 2 decades ago.
